World cross day is celebrated on 8 may every year. World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is an annual celebration of the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. This date is the anniversary of the birth of Henry Dunant, who was born on 8 May 1828.
It celebrated because the World Red Cross Day to acknowledge the beliefs of the Red Crescent Movement and the International Red Cross. The day also signifies appreciation for the volunteers who are always ready to help the needy.
The Indian Red Cross's programmes are grouped into four main core areas:
- Promoting humanitarian principles and values;
- Disaster response;
- Disaster preparedness; and
- Health and Care in the Community.
